Canada opens vs. Russia on Boxing Day

The schedule for the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship has been released with host Canada starting against recent silver medallist Russia.

The tournament begins on 26 December 2016 at the 19,746-seat Air Canada Centre in Toronto with the USA-Latvia game following Canada taking on Russia while Sweden-Denmark and Czech Republic against defending champion Finland will be the games on the opening day at the 21,273-seat Bell Centre in Montreal.

The event will be hosted at the same venues like at the 2015 World Juniors but with reversed roles for Montreal and Toronto.

In the Preliminary Round from 26 to 31 December, Toronto will host the group with Russia, the United States, Canada, Slovakia and Latvia that will conclude with the USA-Canada New Year’s Eve game.

Montreal will host Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Switzerland in the Preliminary Round.

Toronto will also host two quarter-final games while Montreal will be the venue for two other quarter-final games – including Canada’s quarter-final game pending qualification –, both semi-finals, the medal games and the best-of-three relegation round.
